and stephen wanted to go on the log ride...

but i didn't...

although i did go on the tornado, which was my first roller coaster. and the first time is always the worst. and now thinking back, i do kind of want to go on it again. along with the raging river, the sawmill splash, the silly silo, the bumper cars, the underground the g-force and the tilt a whirl.
so technically another trip to adventure land.

I'd forgotten how much fun it can be...

..especially after going on the tilt-a-whirl, the bumper cars, the silly silo,the silly silo again, and then the tilt-a-whirl again...can really make you nauseous, but i did NOT throw up! ;)

but i still had a great time with my friend Chris [second from top in photo], my mom and my younger siblings.
i think Philomena especially had fun going on [one right after the other] the log ride the silly silo the tilt-a-whirl and the tornado. and then later in the day going on the dragon twice in a row.
along with Chris who went on the log ride the silly silo twice the tilt-a-whirl and the tornado with the only break being the walk between rides. and also went on the dragon twice in a row with Philomena.
and it was also moms first time on the raging river because she was always holding one of us in a stroller! and while we went down the river i went directly under the water fall and got soaked!
and then dried off on the combination of rides i mentioned above

only Stephen escaped unscathed

and then proceeded to go on the log ride where he got drenched.


sorry mom that your anniversary was the only available day to go, and i thank you for bringing us!

finally a new post to read!

Well it has been a while since the last note that Daniel posted. It has been extremely busy here.

Sarah is sending out resumes daily. A superintendent of schools from New Mexico was in Perkins last night and Caroline talked to him. He goes up to Minnesota to hire school teachers for down there. He likes the work ethic up here so that is why he comes all this way to hire. He gave Caroline his business card. We are trying to convince Sarah to at least consider the possibility.

Mary is at camp working.

My first MPA class is keeping me busy. I am writing a 6 page report and a 15 minute PowerPoint presentation on a chapter of the book we are assigned. Then our final project is a 20 page report. all I can say thank goodness for Google. The 5 minutes of Googling my subject matter has reaped more than enough material. back when I was going through college it would have took me weeks to go through the literature cite catalogs to search for the articles and then try to find them. Boy it is amazing how quickly things change. The kids today should at least experience for one day what we had to go through so they appreciate technology.

We have a summer working who does not comprehend using a typewriter and white out.

Stephen and I are off to cub scout camp tomorrow, we will be through Sunday. It will be fun.

Weekend in Review

The weekend went very well, we all enjoyed the visit of both sets of grandparents!

Stephen made his first Communion and it was really nice to have both sets of grandparents in attendance. We had a little get together afterwards, and Monsignor Slepicka showed up and we all enjoyed his company. Monsignor told us some of his adventures that he had while up in Alaska doing some missionary work up there for the past two months. Monsignor is in his late 70's to early 80's and the amount of activities that he is doing is amazing. He does not look or act like he is older than 65!

He recommended not to eat the whale, the taste was not that great. He explained that on the plate it was the size and shape of candy and it looked like a piece of candy, and having a sweet tooth decided to try it (not knowing what it was at the time he tried it). He found out what he tried was actually whale, and the taste did not come close to tasting like candy.

He also advised us not to taste sea lion oil, it tasted like rotten eggs. The Eskimos and Indians up there hunt sea lions and use the sea lion oil as a staple as a cooking oil. The Eskimos and Indians use sea lion oil all the time.

Out in the bush the price of things are very expensive, a gallon of milk can cost $8 to $9, a small jar of regular cooking oil about the same price. While in the major cities of Alaska the price of goods is similar to the lower states, but out in the bush things are very expensive.

Monsignor also said that the men would do all the hunting and the women in the village would clean what the men caught....hmmmm I kind of like that concept!

We took Mary back to school Sunday afternoon and then went to West Des Moines to attend Sarah's concert. The Wartburg Wind Ensemble played at the New Hope Lutheran Church in West Des Moines Sunday night.

The concert was excellent, for those attending her concert in Iowa City you will really enjoy it. Dr. Hancock did an excellent job of describing each piece of music they played and also talked a lot of the traditions that were a part of the band.

Sarah's Iowa City concert is Friday April 24, 2009 at 7:00 PM at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church 123 E Market St.

The "Limerick Daydream" piece was amazing.

This will be Sarah's last and final concert in the wind ensemble as a college student. The tradition that they do at the end of each performance is neat, and I am guessing she will probably get misty eyed.

She will play in the May term concert, but she will being playing the clarinet and will conduct one piece. But the wind ensemble band for the seniors will end with this tour

We hope you can attend the concert. The performance will lasts about 2 hours
